BREAKOUT SESSION BRIEFS
Veteran Hiring Programs Won't Save You.
Your Network Will.
Companies love putting veterans on a slide. Veteran hiring initiatives, military-friendly employer badges, DEI pledges all look great in a press release. But that recruiter, liaison, or program manager you get connected to is one person, and they're your entry point, not your finish line. In this session, Charles Bischoff of NextOp demystifies the hidden job market and shares the strategies that actually move someone from entry point to hired: building a strong professional network online and in person, maximizing LinkedIn as a career advancement tool, running informational interviews that open doors, and developing real relationships with mentors, sponsors, and industry professionals. We'll also break down how job seekers are using AI wrong, and how to use it as a tool that sharpens your network instead of replacing it. The program gets you a point of contact. The network gets you the job.
Accelerating Your Career After Landing the Job
Landing the job is just the beginning. This interactive panel discussion is designed to help veterans build a successful, long-term career after entering the civilian workforce. Corporate leaders and veteran professionals will share practical insights on developing executive presence, navigating corporate culture, managing up, finding mentors and sponsors, and positioning yourself for future advancement. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with panelists, gaining candid advice on overcoming workplace challenges, building influence, and creating a career development strategy. Participants will leave with actionable tools and perspectives to help them thrive in their organizations and continue growing throughout their careers.
Career Pathways: Exploring Opportunities Across Industries
Veterans bring highly transferable skills that are valued across a wide range of industries. This session is designed for those looking to explore the career pathways and opportunities available to them beyond traditional military career fields. The session will begin with a panel discussion featuring veterans and industry leaders who have successfully transitioned into careers in finance, law, technology, cybersecurity, manufacturing, logistics, the skilled trades, and/or other growing industries. Panelists will share candid insights on translating military experience, navigating career pivots, and positioning yourself for success in a competitive job market.Following the panel, participants will break into smaller, industry-specific discussion groups, where they can connect directly with professionals in the fields that interest them most. These interactive conversations will provide an opportunity to ask questions, gain practical advice, expand your network, and leave with a clearer understanding of the pathways into your desired industry.
From Fighting for Your Country to Fighting Financial Crime & Fraud
The world is changing rapidly, and the illicit financial and fraud threats we face are growing more complex. In today’s anti-financial crime and fraud risk community, there is a heated battle over who can successfully negotiate these challenges. Organizations are looking for hardworking, adaptable, trustworthy, resilient and mission-oriented people with can-do attitudes. There is an experienced talent pool with these skills (and many more) that is not yet being fully tapped—our military veteran community.
· Bring the skills you earned facing the enemy on the battlefield to a new front – financial crime and fraud.
· Hear from experienced professionals who successfully made the leap from the military to the private sector and now dedicate their time and talent to fighting fraudsters and combatting financial crime.
